Ingredients

  • 20 grams beeswax pellets or 2 Tablespoons
  • 20 grams shea butter or 1 1/2 Tablespoons
  • 23 grams calendula oil or 2 Tablespoons (for this recipe I use my calendula infused safflower oil. Find that recipe here)
  • 20-30 drops  eucalyptus essential oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Measure ingredients

It’s best to measure out your ingredients using a kitchen scale that has gram measurements. Measure the beeswax first to 20 grams, then add shea butter to the beeswax to get a total weight of 40 grams then add the calendula oil to make 63 grams. If you are not making your own calendula oil you can order it online here.

If using the Tablespoon measurements please note that you will have some extra salve. You may want about 5-6 small containers like these 3-gram round containers to put any extra salve into. If using the gram measurements you too will have a smaller amount of salve left over.

  2. Melt Ingredients

Place beeswax, shea butter and calendula oil in a small pan over medium heat until melted. Remove from heat and add eucalyptus oil and pour melted ingredients into a paper coffee cup. I used this type of cup because you can pinch the middle of the cup together to make a clean pour.

  3. Pour

Carefully pour warm oil in a 2.2 ounce container to the brim taking care not to overfill. Leave the container on the counter until liquid cools and sets. Do not move it until the salve has set.

I am not a fan of salves being in tin cans mainly because I don’t think its a good hygiene practice to keep dipping fingers into a container. Therefore I prefer to put my calendula salve in these plastic containers.

This recipe will make one 2.2 ounce container.
