Now that you’ve found some morel mushrooms how do you fix them? Use this easy and tasty lightly breaded deep fried morel mushroom recipe.
Prepare Morel Mushrooms
Clean morels by either gently brushing away any dirt or rinse under cool water then pat dry. Cut morels in half and set aside.
Prepare Batter
Note: How much batter we prepare depends on how many mushrooms we find. Sometimes we only use part of the 8 oz box of tempura (saving the rest for a later date) and adjust water to the consistency desired.
So, with that said, in a medium bowl add desired amount of tempura and enough water to make a thin to medium pancake consistency batter. Stir together until well combined and lump free.
Heat Oil
Prepare a medium pot and fill with about 3-4-inches deep of vegetable oil. Heat oil to about 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Although, the thermometer I use is no longer available you can use a thermometer like this.
Frying Morel Mushrooms
Working with about 4 or 5 morel pieces at a time dip mushroom pieces into batter until fully coated. Then gently lower battered morels one at a time into hot oil. Fry mushrooms for about 2-3 minutes or until they are lightly browned.
Remove From Oil
Carefully remove fried morel mushrooms from hot oil using a spider strainer. Scoop out mushrooms and place them on the paper towel lined paper plate. Salt and pepper to taste. Complete above steps until all mushrooms are fried. Enjoy!
