It's time to turn that leftover bread into bread crumbs! Use any type of bread just as long as it hasn't gone to mold.
Dry Bread
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Slice French bread into about two-inch thickness pieces. Place sliced bread on a baking sheet. Place the bread in the preheated oven and then turn the oven off. Allow the bread to rest in the oven with the door closed for 15 minutes or until bread has completely dried. Note: be sure the bread is completely dry and if not then repeat the heating process. Then remove dried bread from oven and set aside.
Make Bread Crumbs
There are three ways to turn dried bread into breadcrumbs. 1) grate with a cheese grater using the tiny punched-out holes designed for zesting 2) grind with a wooden tamper, or 3) use a blender or food processor. Use any or all three of these techniques to obtain the desired bread crumb consistency.
Store Bread Crumbs
Keep breadcrumbs fresh by storing them in a glass container with a tight fitting lid. Bread crumbs are shelf stable or can be stored in the freezer until ready to use.
