This is seriously a super easy taco recipe that includes ground beef, seasonings, salsa, water, taco shells, and all the fixings.
When it comes to taco night, whatever night that may be, I put my husband in charge of this simple dish. This is actually his recipe and we call it, “Dad’s taco’s”. There is really nothing homemade about it. Just combine ingredients together, simmer, fill pre-made taco shells and enjoy!
Recipe For Dad’s Beef Tacos
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds ground beef (80 percent lean/20 percent fat)
- 1 (1 oz) package taco seasoning (we use McCormick Original Taco Seasoning)
- 3 Tablespoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon Accent Flavor Enhancer
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup salsa (we use Pace Picante Sauce Mild)
- iceberg lettuce chopped thinly
- 1 fresh tomato cored and diced
- sour cream
- 16 ounce freshly grated Colby & Monterey Jack cheese
- taco shells (we buy La Tiara Yellow Corn Taco Shells)
- refried beans – optional (we like Old El Paso or Taco Bell Refried Beans)
Instructions:
Prepare Taco Meat
Place ground beef in a medium pan and cook over medium-high heat until browned. My husband uses a meat chopper when cooking taco meat. After meat has cooked place a colander or strainer over a bowl and put cooked meat in strainer to drain fat. Put meat back into pan and discard fat in a disposable container.
Add spice packet, spices, water and salsa to cooked ground beef and bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered until liquid has reduced.
Prepare Toppings
While the taco meat is simmering grate cheese, dice tomatoes and slice lettuce thin. If making refried beans start warming up that now too. Warm taco shells according to directions on packaging.
Serving Dad’s Tacos
Try serving your tacos on a taco plate or use festive taco holders. They help to keep your tacos standing tall without falling over and losing all your goodies. Build your taco your way and enjoy!
