Savory Stuffing Recipe For The Holidays

A turkey dinner is not complete until you have a savory stuffing.

For years I tried to find the perfect recipe for stuffing. Something was always missing. This recipe is a hit in our family.  I finally did it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 bags sourdough or regular dried bread crumbs (usually found in the bakery section at the grocery store)
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 6 celery stalks cut
  • 2 apples chopped
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh Sage (found in the produce section at the grocery store)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh Thyme (found in the produce section at the grocery store)
  • Chicken broth

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Melt butter in a large pan. Add onion and celery and saute until tender.
  3. Place bread crumbs in a large bowl.
  4. Add cooked onion and celery.
  5. Chop sage and thyme. Add to bread crumbs.
  6. Slice apples. Add to mixture and toss until well blended.
  7. Slowly add 1/2 cup chicken broth and toss. Continue adding broth a little at a time until bread crumbs are moist.
  8. Put stuffing mixture into a medium-sized casserole dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove foil and continue cooking for 10 minutes or until slightly browned.
