Easy Tofu Recipe

If you have been wondering what to do or how to fix tofu then you have come to the right spot as I share with you my Parmesan herb crusted easy tofu recipe.

What is Tofu?

Tofu is very popular among vegan’s and vegetarian’s. It provides a high content in protein. Tofu has several consistencies or textures which include silken, regular, firm, extra-firm and super-firm. The texture depends on the water content in the tofu.

Tofu Consistencies

  • Silken is the softest type of tofu. It can be compared to a cheese like mozzarella. It contains the highest water content and falls apart easily. Silken tofu is best used as a thick cream. It’s also perfect for using in smoothies and dips.
  • Regular consistency tofu is best used in soups and stews. This tofu easily soaks up flavors. This tofu crumbles which does not make it ideal to use for frying.
  • Firm tofu has the same consistency as feta cheese and has less water. This is probably the most versatile and liked tofu. Firm tofu does not fall apart when handled and it absorbs marinades easily and can be pan-fried or deep-fried. Firm tofu is usually stored in a water bath and must be fully dry prior to cooking.
  • Extra-firm tofu easier to pan-fry but it doesn’t absorb marinades very well.
  • Super-firm tofu has the least water. Although, it may be difficult to find in your supermarket it can be made easily.

How To Make Tofu

Tofu comes from soybeans and the first step in making homemade tofu is soaking soybeans. The next process is to take the soybeans and make soy milk.

If you would like to try and make your own soy milk see my easy recipe on How to Make Homemade Soy Milk .

A coagulant is added to soy milk which produces curds. The curds are then pressed into a tofu solid block of varying textures. If interested in making homemade tofu see my super easy recipe on How To Make The Best Homemade Tofu.

I highly recommend trying to make your own soy milk and tofu as it is crazy easy to do!
