Homemade body butter conditions your skin. This recipe uses products that aid in protecting, conditioning and moisturizing skin.

This recipe only uses four ingredients and is fragrant free; shea butter, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, and liquid coconut oil. If you want a fragrant body butter add 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil.

Condition Dry Skin With Whipped Body Butter

Making a homemade whipped body butter is a sure way to not only condition your skin but also by combating that dry, rough, scaly, flaky skin during colder temperatures. Your skin will absolutely love you and truthfully you are going to love the way your skin feels throughout the day.

If I Can Make It, I’m All For It!

The main purpose in making my own recipes be it food, beauty and/or personal care products like my All-Natural Creamy Lip Balm, or any of my Home Remedies, I know exactly what is going into my products.

There is nothing fake or misleading with any of the recipes I share. Furthermore, if it wasn’t good you can bet your dollar I would NOT be sharing it. So, feel confident, if I share any recipe, it’s gotta be good!

Body Butter Ingredients

1/4 cup each of shea butter (54g), cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, liquid coconut oil. Although optional but if you want a fragrant body butter add 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is not only beneficial for protecting, conditioning and moisturizing dry or rough skin but it also has natural anti-inflammatory properties that aid in treating arthritis. When buying shea butter I always make sure the product is 100% pure.

Shea Butter

Cocoa Butter

Another 100% pure butter I use, which is also a natural moisturizer, is cocoa butter. Cocoa butter is known for smoothing out scars, wrinkles and other marks on the skin. It’s real popular for moisturizing dry skin. Cocoa butter smells a lot like chocolate. Cocoa butter comes in a more solid form and must be melted whereas shea butter is more soft.

Sweet Almond Oil

Another moisturizing ingredient used in this recipe is Sweet Almond Oil. Almond oil contains natural fatty acids that help your skin retain moisture and can help heal chapped and irritated skin. Again, making it a perfect product for this body butter.

Coconut Oil

This next product, coconut oil, comes in two different forms, solid or liquid. I have made this body butter with both types but I prefer the liquid coconut oil. You may not think the liquid oil would work but it actually makes the whipped butter look exactly like whipped cream! This is the part where I warn you to keep this product away from children and don’t you mistake it for whipping cream. If whipped properly you will see what I am talking about. Anyway, coconut oil is a great moisturizer. It is rich in fatty acids and vitamin E which makes it an excellent oil to help repair dry skin.

Essential Oils

Adding essential oils is totally optional.

Without adding any EO’s the Whipped Body Butter will more than likely have that chocolaty smell of cocoa butter. There is nothing wrong with that but if you want to bump it up a notch add about 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil. If you are looking for any recommendations, I like using lavender by itself. The last batch I made I wanted to try something different and recently experimented with 100% Pure Lemongrass . I really like that too!

Whipped Body Butter Recipe

Directions:

  1. In a small sauce pan or double boiler combine shea butter and cocoa butter. Gently stir over medium heat until melted. Remove from heat.
  2. Add coconut oil and almond oil and stir to combine.
  3. Place in a large cup (glass or paper) and place in the refrigerator until mixture sets up. This may take a few hours.
  4. Once mixture is set remove from refrigerator and place contents in a mixing bowl. I use the stand mixer. Whip until butter starts to fluff.
  5. Optional: add essential oil drops and continue whipping until stiff peaks have formed.
  6. Spoon into a jar with a lid.

I have tried something similar and loved making it. However I always find that it is greasy. I’ve used arrow root powder before to help with that but still was greasy. So my question is this recipe greasy on the skin?

    • Jett

Hi Tasha: All body butters that I have tried outside of my recipe have left me with greasy skin and I believe that was due to how I applied the product. Since this recipe does use butters and oils I recommend to only apply small amounts as a little bit will go a long way. For example I apply a dime size to each arm to moisturize. It not only gives my skin a nice healthy sheen but it doesn’t leave me with that overly greasy feeling. Be sure to wash your hands after applying the body butter as that helps too. Hope this was helpful. Jett

I always put my ingredients in a canning jar and put jar in pan of water, then melt ingredients. I fill lip balm containers from jar. Any left over I just keep and store in jar. No greasy pan to wash. Also do this with my lotions.
