Sicilian Italian garlic butter is the best dipping oil appetizer for any Italian entrée. This recipe surprisingly contains no butter at all.

Although, by the photograph below, it appears there may be a lot of ingredients for this recipe but there are actually only five! Ingredients include garlic (a full head of garlic at that), extra-virgin olive oil, freshly microplane grated parmesan cheese, red chili pepper flakes and freshly chopped basil.

Garlicky Italian Butter

Sicilian garlic dip, also known as Italian butter, is probably one of the best pre-dinner appetizers prior to any Italian entrée. However, if you’re not careful you may just fill up on Italian butter and bread prior to the main course as it is that good! Yes, be extremely careful when eating Italian butter. As this recipe I am about to share is phenomenal!

Garlic

Garlic is probably the most important ingredient in this recipe. Actually, it is the most important ingredient along with olive oil. To make matters simple, use one whole bulb of garlic and mince garlic through this garlic press or chop by hand. For this dish to taste so spectacular it is recommended to use as much fresh ingredients as possible.

Olive Oil

As stated above, olive oil is the next important ingredient. Fresh, high-quality extra-virgin olive oil is one of the world’s healthiest foods. Since there are tons of oils on the market I will not recommend which type to use but I will recommend purchasing an olive oil made in a certain location.

Inside Scoop (wink wink): One would think olive oils made in Italy would be the best to purchase but I have a friend that lives in Italy and he shared with me that anytime I need to buy olive oil to be sure it is made in Greece.

With that being said, I will share one of the olives oil’s that won a Gold Award and was named one of the World’s Best Olive Oils in 2019, 2020 and in 2021 it won the Silver Award. This olive oil has a delicate blend and comes from Greece. The olives used to make this oil come from wild olive trees and Koroneiki olives. This olive oil is loaded with antioxidants and high levels of polyphenols. Meaning, this extra-virgin olive oil has many health benefits. Yeah!

We went to Italy, while dining out we tried the Sicilian Garlic Dipping Oil & fell in love with it. It became our mission to make this outstanding dip.

Since we grow our own Basil & Roma Tomatoes, we knew we could do this, and we did. I make several different types now. One of them use, garlic, red peppers, virgin olive oil, salt just for taste, pepper, and of course Basil (fresh & dried), then I put it in the magic bullet and grind it all up and put it in a mason jar.

Beside dipping we cut either Italian or French bread, cut the bread like you was going to make a sub sandwich, spread some of the Italian butter (we call it butter) on the bread, put slice Roma tomatoes on it, then spread some mozzarella cheese and put it in the oven until cheese has melted.

Enjoy, be prepared you will get hooked.

Oh my stars, this is so delicious, I was inspired to bake my own bread worthy of this dip. Spooned over baked potato, spread on large slices of my btead and baked, my house smelled wonderful, husband loved it. I even tried it under the skin of a turkey breast, made it so juicy, garlicky, yummy. This is a keeper recipe, thank you so much for sharing.
