It’s a one pan dandy!

I have been making this hamburger pie for my family for many years. It really hits the spot. It’s one of those dishes you kinda just throw together, bake and voila! By the way, don’t be surprised if you don’t have any leftovers, it’s that good!

This dish is one of my favorites because it is so easy to put together and well liked by my family. I prepare this recipe in a 9″ square baker. As a matter of fact, it could easily serve 6 people but we barely have enough for two. Seconds is a must have with this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 cans cut green beans
  • 1 large can cream of mushroom soup (Family size or 22 ounce can)
  • 6 medium russet potatoes (can substitute instant potatoes 6-8 servings)
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven 350 degrees.
  2. In a large skillet brown ground beef. Drain off fat.
  3. In the meantime, prepare mashed potatoes and set aside. (If using instant potatoes prepare per box instructions.)  Compared to using real potatoes or instant potatoes both are very good.
    • Peel potatoes, cut into slices and place in large pan of water. Boil until potatoes are tender.
    • Drain water in sink and return cooked potatoes to pan.
    • Add 3 Tablespoons butter, a spoonful of sour cream and 3/4 cup of Half & Half Cream.
    • Mash potatoes until smooth. (use a potato masher or for smoother potatoes use a hand mixer).
  4. Place cooked beef in 9″ square baker.
  5. Drain green beans and add to top of beef.
  6. Salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Pour mushroom soup straight out of the can on top of green beans and smooth out.
  8. Finally, carefully spoon mashed potatoes on top of soup and smooth out.
  9. Place 9″ baker on a cookie sheet in case it should boil over while baking.
  10. Bake for 45 minutes or until potatoes are slightly brown.
  11. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15 – 20 minutes prior to serving.
  12. Enjoy!

Wonderful quick dinner after working all day. I did not have cream of mushroom soup so used what I had which was cream of steak & cheese soup. I do not care for the soup to eat plain so this is great.

    Thanks for the great recipe!

Hi Marlayne: So glad you were able to make this recipe. And yes, different creamy soups can be used. Can’t say I’ve ever heard of cream of steak and cheese but it sure sounds good! Thanks for sharing the versality of this recipe. Jett
