For this foaming hand soap recipe all you’ll need is a special soap dispenser, liquid soap, essential oil(s) and distilled water.

Foaming hand soap is so amazing. But there is a little trick. You can’t just make a liquid hand soap foam. You’ve got to use a special soap dispenser like this that is made especially for making soap foam. If you have purchased foaming hand soaps in the past and kept the container by all means use that.

I was inspired to create this foaming hand soap recipe because I absolutely fell in love with this Lemon Basil Foaming Shea Butter Hand Soap. Purchased my first bottle in 2019 and then ordered the 3-pack. I even kept the containers so that one day I could make my own. Well, I finally got around to doing it. Not sure why I waited so long. It’s such a easy recipe. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

What is the best soap to use for making foaming hand soap?

I have seen some recipes that use any type of liquid soap to make a foaming hand soap. But for me, any soap just won’t do. I look for quality ingredients that will be gentle on the skin. That’s why I chose to use the brand, Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Unscented Soap.

The main reason I chose the Unscented Pure-Castile soap for this recipe was because of all the ingredients which include water, organic coconut oil, potassium hydroxide, organic palm kernel oil, organic olive oil, organic hemp seed oil, organic jojoba oil, citric acid and Vitamin E. These ingredients are actually beneficial and will not dry out your skin. Matter-of-fact, by using Castile Soap for making homemade foaming hand soap you won’t have to add anything except the distilled water. All the other ingredients like the essential oils and food coloring can be totally optional. And another reason for using Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap is because it’s well known and has been around since 1858. 1858! Now, that’s a long time! They must be doing something right!

Castile Soap also has scented liquid soaps that may interest you. By going that route you wouldn’t even have to use any essential oils. Below I have listed a few that may spark your interest:
