What is Dalgona Coffee
Dalgona is a whipped coffee beverage. It’s ingredients include instant coffee granules, confectioners sugar, hot water and milk of choice.
Who would have thought that instant coffee granules, sugar and water would make a whipped consistency coffee?
I couldn’t believe it myself so I had to give it a try it! And much to my surprise, I had made a whipped coffee.
How To Serve Dalgona Whipped Coffee
Some people like to prepare this coffee served over ice but I prefer to serve it hot.
One might call this a foo-foo coffee like my husband but I made him (get this…made him) try this coffee.
Urban Dictionary’s definition of foo-foo drink: An alcoholic beverage that is way too pretty or feminine. These drinks are usually characterized by lots of whipped cream, multiple fruit decorations and/or umbrellas. Also, they tend to be low in alcohol content.

Please note: there is no alcohol in this recipe.
As usual he was skeptical but after I gave him a taste he wanted a full cup of this delgona coffee of his own! Go figure! Like I would ever have him try something that tasted awful! LOL
Dalgona Whipped Coffee Recipe
Most recipes I have come across make a small batch for just one cup of coffee.
Since I use my standing mixer for this recipe I found making enough for just one cup was a hassle.
Therefore, this recipe makes a bigger batch and I store the whipped coffee in a covered container in the refrigerator. That way I don’t have to drag out my mixer each time I want to make some of this delicious whipped coffee!
Ingredients:
- Instant coffee granules; 4 Tablespoons (I used Folgers)
- Granulated sugar; 4 Tablespoons
- Hot water; 4 Tablespoons
- Cocoa (optional for dusting)
- Milk of choice
Directions:
In a mixing bowl add coffee granules, sugar and hot water.
Using the whisk attachment on the mixer beat mixture starting out slow and move on up to medium speed until liquid becomes light in color, thick and fluffy with medium stiff peaks (about 3-5 minutes).
I guess if you were an espresso connoisseur maybe you would like to eat the whipped coffee as is because it is so strong but I prefer to add it to some milk.
I then use an Aeroccino to froth some cold milk (1/2 cup to be exact) or half and half making it warm.
Pour the warm milk into a coffee cup, add a couple spoons full of the whipped coffee, top with a spoonful of frothed milk and lightly sprinkle with cocoa using a tea infuser.
Put the extra whipped coffee into a lidded container and place in refrigerator until ready to use for your next dalgona whipped coffee.
Or try the whipped coffee over a glass of ice and milk of choice.
Enjoy!
