Make a delicious pot of ham and beans with this recipe using a slow cooker. Ingredients include smoked ham, dried navy beans, and flavor enhancers.
It seems the longer it’s cooked the better it tastes. I don’t know what it is but it tastes even better the next day!
Making ham and beans in the slow cooker brings out more flavor. There’s something about making ham and beans in the slow cooker
Back in the day I remember my mom making ham and beans the old fashioned way.
She would use the leftover ham from Easter dinner, place it in a heavy roasting pan filled with water and navy beans and cook in the oven for hours.
Type of Ham to Buy
This recipe calls for 2 pounds of diced ham. If you can find a 2 pound ham great but I like to purchase a 3-4 pound ham to have some extra meat for making paper thin sliced ham sandwiches.
Look for a ham similar to the photo below. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a bone-in ham just don’t purchase a canned ham. I like using Frick’s brand hams.
If purchasing a larger ham use a kitchen scale to cut off 2 pounds of meat for this recipe.
