Graham Cracker Pie Crust Recipe
Easy Recipe with Few Ingredients
Jump to RecipeThere are only three ingredients: graham crackers, sugar and butter! Can it get any easier than that!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs (about 12 full crackers)
- 3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter melted
Instructions:
When my husband says this is the best tasting graham cracker pie crust he has ever tasted I know it’s got to be good!
Prepare Graham Crackers
For this recipe use the plain graham crackers. Not the kind with honey or any other additions like cinnamon, just plain ole graham crackers. I used the Keebler Original brand for this recipe. Use 12 full pieces of the crackers. The goal is to get 1 1/2 cups of crushed graham crackers. I also use this graham cracker crust for when I make my lemon meringue pie.
For the crust the crackers need to be crushed very fine. There are three ways to crush graham crackers 1) by hand (not so great) 2) using a rolling pin or 3) the use of a food processor. I have found only two of the ways crush the graham crackers very fine.
My first option is to place the graham crackers into a gallon baggie and use a hard object like a marble rolling pin and pound out the crackers to a fine consistency. I like using my marble pin because you don’t have to smack the crackers so hard. (Giggle giggle). The second option for making fine consistency graham crackers is by using a food processor . Just place the crackers in the processor bowl, cover with the lid locked in place and pulse until crackers are blended finely.
I have made my graham cracker crust using both methods. It just depends on the mood I am in but if I had to choose one method I would probably go with using the rolling pin. But whichever way works best for you go for it and just make sure you get a fine consistency.
Melt Butter
Butter is important for this recipe as it will hold the crust together. I use 6 Tablespoons of unsalted stick butter. Melt the butter over low heat until completely melted.
Combine Ingredients
Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl until moistened. Transfer the crumbs into a 9-inch round pie plate. Gently press the mixture into the pie plate and up the sides by using your fingers or the bottom of a drinking glass. Fingers work great for me. Make sure the crust is smooth and without cracks.
Bake
Place pie plate into a 375 degree Fahrenheit preheated oven and bake for 12 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely on a cooling rack if making cream pies.
Keep pies fresh using a pie saver or a pie carrier. I like this one as the lid locks into place real well, it has venting capabilities, and I like the convenience of it having a handle. oh, yeah, it travels well too!
