This herbal hibiscus tea lemonade has a slight tartness, twangy with a bit of sweetness flavor. One could compare this beverage to a sweetened cranberry infused type of water.
Hibiscus flowers have been used for flavoring beverages for many years. Not only is the flavor unique but this beverage gets its natural stunning deep rose, red or pinkish color from the hibiscus flower loose leaf tea.
Hibiscus flowers are a popular addition to any beverage. You might even see hibiscus flavored beverages like kombucha, beverage syrups or herbal tonics. I believe Starbucks makes a hibiscus coffee beverage and even some brewery’s use hibiscus flowers for making specialized beers. With that said I use this Hibiscus Flower normally sold in brewery shops but you can get it online.
Herbal Hibiscus Tea Lemonade Recipe
Ingredients:
- 8 cups filtered water divided (meaning we’ll use 4 cups for brewing and 4 cups for after brewing)
- 1/4 cup Hibiscus flower tea (I use this loose leaf tea)
- 5 large lemons
- 1 cup granulated (or sweeten to taste)
Directions:
Place 4 cups of water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Add sugar and stir to dissolve. Remove from heat and add hibiscus flower loose leaf tea and steep for 5-10 minutes.
Carefully pour tea through a fine mesh strainer into a large glass pitcher and add remaining water. Allow tea to cool.
Add juice from 5 large lemons. I like using a commercial juicer as it gets the job done quickly and filters out all the lemon seeds. The juicer I use is usually out of stock but there are other comparable versions you can check out here.
Serve your freshly brewed hibiscus tea lemonade into a large glass filled with ice and enjoy!
Other natural flavorings to enhance the brewing tea (add 1 teaspoon to water at the same time as adding the loose leaf tea):
