Caramel Sauce

Caramel sauce is one of those must “Fall Baking Recipes”! And to only have four ingredients, that is a major plus! Although you can make this easy recipe any time of the year it is a “must” to make it from September through December I must say!

What Goes Good With Caramel Sauce?

When it comes to desserts caramel sauce can be added without reservations. Meaning, put this sauce on almost anything.

Caramel sauce is great for dipping apple slices, drizzle atop brownies or even homemade ice cream or vanilla bean custard! There are many way to use caramel sauce. Sometimes, just putting some sauce in a bowl and dipping your finger works for me!

I had a friend contact me requesting a caramel sauce as she was wanting to put it atop an apple cake. Yum…that sounds good! Drizzling homemade caramel sauce on top of apple cake. Puts me in the mood to make my cinnamon apple bread! Anyway, I didn’t have this recipe at the time but I told her I would work on one. And this is it!

Caramel Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2/3 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 3 Tablespoons salted butter

Instructions:

Making the Base

In a saucier pan add sugar and water. Heat on medium and stir until sugar dissolved. Turn heat to high and allow mixture to boil for about 10 minutes. You want the mixture to get a deep golden amber color.

Allow mixture to boil without stirring. You will need to keep an eye on it because if you’re not careful it will burn.

Add Ingredients

Once the sugar mixture has turned the deep amber golden color remove saucier pan from heat.

For this next step be very careful. Slowly whisk in a little bit at a time of the heavy whipping cream. Careful now as the mixture will bubble vigorously. Then add the butter and stir until melted.

Allow mixture to rest in pan until cool.

Transfer To A Container

After the sauce has cooled transfer to a glass container (I use a kitchen funnel and pour the sauce into a mason jar). Viola! Homemade Caramel Sauce!

Once the sauce cools completely it will thicken up. Refrigerate leftovers and reheat as needed. Since there are no preservatives in this recipe use this sauce up within 3-5 days. Enjoy!
