You talk about a refreshing drink that will definitely cool you off on a hot summers day! You’ve got to try this Lemon Lime Italian Ice recipe!
A combination of fresh lemon and lime juice with a little sweetness all blended together with ice and then topped with zest for additional flavor is a recipe that is called for on those hot sweltering days. So, if the temperatures in your area are without a doubt in the triple digits or just to hot to tolerate then you may just want to make this refreshing treat. This lemon lime Italian ice recipe will definitely keep you hydrated.
This recipe does use a blender and a microplane. I don’t care what type of blender you use but I highly recommend this blender for making this recipe or any of my blended beverage recipes for that matter. And as far as the microplane…if you don’t have one you really need one.
What do you use a microplane for?
A micoplane is a real handy gadget to have as one of your kitchen tools. A microplane can be used for grating hard cheeses like Parmesean to make fluffy mounds of cheese, zest lemons, limes (like for this recipe) or oranges, use it for grating spices like cinnamon or even nutmeg. I use mine ALL THE TIME.
Lemon Lime Italian Ice Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 lemons juiced
- 1 lime juiced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or more if you want it sweeter)
- 4 cups ice
- zest from 1 lemon and 1 lime
- 1/2 cup of cold water (use only if needed)
Instructions
Pour lemon and lime juice into blender. Add granulated sugar and blend for about 15 seconds. Add ice to blender and blend on high for about 3 minutes or until mixture is slushy and free from chunky ice. If the mixture is too thick it is okay to add about 1/2 cup water and continue blending. Pour mixture into a freezer safe pan. Add zest to mixture and stir well until combined. Place pan in freezer and freeze for 1-hour. NOTE: This beverage can be served right after blending if desired.
If the mixture should freeze solid then remove the pan from the freezer and place on countertop for about 10 minutes before attempting to serve. Oh yeah, be sure to serve this lemon lime Italian ice with a straw AND a spoon and garnish with a sugar coated lime slice (optional but highly recommended). Enjoy!
