Hot buttered toasted roll with hot buttered lobster meat is what makes this lobster roll recipe so satisfying to the taste buds.
This lobster roll recipe is made with real lobster meat. If planning on using fresh live lobster and you need a tip on how to prepare it then head on over to my Main Lobster Recipe and see how easy it is to make steamed fresh lobster.
Do you have to use fresh live lobster for making a lobster roll recipe?
Having access to fresh live lobster is “a thing” these days. You don’t have to live near an ocean anymore to get a live lobster. Why? Because now you can order a live lobster on-line today and get it tomorrow when ordering through Lobster Anywhere. Below are a few recommendations for different types of lobster meat to use when making lobster rolls. I’m sure there is some imitation lobster on the market but I do not recommend using that. Instead try any of the following:
- Find Fresh Live Lobster prices here – prices may be cheaper than getting a lobster dinner at a restaurant
- You can use lobster tail meat (fresh, frozen or fresh frozen lobster tails)
- Or use fresh frozen lobster meat already removed from the shell (CK: claw and knuckle meat or TCK: tail, claw and knuckle)
- Or, if you don’t want to make my recipe here you can order the whole kit and caboodle for making lobster rolls on-line at Lobster Anywhere.
What type of roll is used when making a lobster roll?
Lobster rolls are traditionally served on a top-split melted butter grilled roll. So really, use whatever roll you can find at your local grocery store/bakery or if you want the traditional style lobster roll you can always purchase on-line. A few recommendations are noted below. The buns I used for this recipe I was able to get at the grocery store in the bakery section. They didn’t come split but I sliced mine right down the top-center and they were perfect!
- New England type hot dog buns
- Challah roll
- King’s Hawaiian hot dog buns
- Country Kitchen Frankfurter Split-Top Rolls
- Or, use plain hot dog buns
Lobster Roll Recipe
This recipe will make two lobster rolls filled to the brim and overflowing with seafood goodness.
Ingredients
- 3/4 pound lobster meat cooked/steamed (I used two 1 1/2 pound whole Maine lobsters that I steamed using the meat from the tails, knuckles, and claws)
- 1 green onion chopped
- 1 celery stock chopped
- 1 lemon (use half the lemon for juice and the other half for garnish)
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 3 Tablespoons butter (2 Tablespoons for the lobster and 1/2 Tablespoon for each roll)
- 2 Hot dog buns/New England type hot dog buns/Country Kitchen Frankfurter Split-Top Rolls
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Prepare Lobster Meat
Melt 2 Tablespoons of butter in a pan over medium heat. Add lobster meat and stir over medium heat for about 2 minutes. Place warmed meat in a large or medium mixing bowl. Add green onions, celery, juice from half a lemon, salt, pepper and mayonnaise and stir to combine all ingredients together.
Prepare Rolls
Melt 1/2 Tablespoon of butter for each roll in a pan over medium heat. Slice roll on top-center. Place roll in melted butter in pan and toast on both sides of the roll for about 2-minutes or until lightly golden brown (just the sides, not the top or bottom). Remove bun from pan and wipe excess butter from pan using a paper towel. Do this step for each roll.
Serving Lobster Roll
Scoop lobster mixture into sliced hot dog buns. Serve cold or warm with potato chips and a slice of lemon. Enjoy!
