Turn ordinary baking apples into deep red apples using red hot cinnamon candies. It’s a perfect recipe for making during the holidays.
These are no ordinary apples, these are Red Hot Cinnamon Apples!
I was first introduced to Red Hot Cinnamon Apples as a child. I remember my mother cooking these little jewels for us. They were wonderful back then and they still are today.
Psst…this recipe is good for all ages.
When making Red Hot Cinnamon Apples you can’t just use any ole apple. Have you noticed lately how many brands of apples there are to choose from at the grocery store?
It makes my head spin every time just thinking about what type of apples to use for cooking.

What Apples to Buy
I recommended to purchase apples that will hold their shape with cooking. To make matters simple, for cooking and baking apples, I recommend any of these four type of apples:
- Golden Delicious
- Granny Smith
- Honeycrisp
- Rome Beauty
Making Red Hot Cinnamon Apples
Ingredients:
- 4 apples cored and peeled (see my favorite coring tool)
- 2 cups water
- 3/4 cup red-hot candies
- 1/3 cup sugar
Instructions:
In a large saucepan bring water to a boil.
Add sugar and red hot cinnamon candies and stir until dissolved.
Reduce heat and carefully add apples.
Cook apples for about 25 minutes or until tender. While apples are cooking, baste them by dipping a spoon in the syrup and pouring the candied syrup over the top of the apples. After awhile flip apples over and continue cooking. When apples have reached the desired tenderness remove from heat.
Allow apples to cool while resting in the cinnamon candied syrup.
Place cooled apples in a storage container. Pour candied syrup in with the apples and refrigerate. If you can’t resist you can eat them warm but I highly recommend keeping them in the candied syrup bath for at least 4 hours as the longer they sit in the red hot syrup bath the deeper red they will get and they will be more flavorful too. Enjoy!
