Savory Stuffing Recipe For The Holidays

A turkey dinner is not complete until you have a savory stuffing.
For years I tried to find the perfect recipe for stuffing. Something was always missing. This recipe is a hit in our family. I finally did it!
Ingredients:
- 2 bags sourdough or regular dried bread crumbs (usually found in the bakery section at the grocery store)
- 1 large onion chopped
- 6 celery stalks cut
- 2 apples chopped
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon fresh Sage (found in the produce section at the grocery store)
- 1 teaspoon fresh Thyme (found in the produce section at the grocery store)
- Chicken broth
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Melt butter in a large pan. Add onion and celery and saute until tender.
- Place bread crumbs in a large bowl.
- Add cooked onion and celery.
- Chop sage and thyme. Add to bread crumbs.
- Slice apples. Add to mixture and toss until well blended.
- Slowly add 1/2 cup chicken broth and toss. Continue adding broth a little at a time until bread crumbs are moist.
- Put stuffing mixture into a medium-sized casserole dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and continue cooking for 10 minutes or until slightly browned.
