Hot Honey is a simple recipe of red chili pepper flakes infused for a short time in farm fresh 100% pure raw organic warmed honey.
Making hot honey is a super simple process and it’s such a unique condiment. Ingredients include fresh raw honey and chili red pepper flakes. For an added flavor and an optional ingredient I highly recommend dividing the honey in half after its been infused and adding apple cider vinegar. You’ll be surprised at how flavorful and tasty this infused honey is.
What is farm fresh raw organic honey?
Farm fresh raw organic honey is 100% pure honey that comes directly from the source, the bees or rather the bee farmer otherwise known as the beekeeper. Seriously though, as a beekeeper myself, not all honey tastes the same. Trust me! With that said, please support your local beekeepers.
Something About Jett’s Kitchen
How do recipes make it to Jett’s Kitchen? That is a great question! You see, I love to cook, always have. All my recipes are tried and true and recipes that have not turned out “great” never make it here. I work a nine-to-five J.O.B. and when I come home from work it really gives me no time to cook a nice meaningful dinner so a lot of the times we eat out during the week. When I’m not inspired to create a recipe from our dining out experiences I get ideas from others that post on their social media pages. For example, this recipe, Hot Honey, was inspired from the below post by @anniejorgensen on Instagram. I’ve never been to 8 1/2 New York but I though I could create my own version of this recipe. And it turned out great!
How is Hot Honey Used?
Never before had Jett’s Kitchen heard of hot honey prior to this post. It’s only through research where these recommendations come from on how hot honey is used unless otherwise indicated.
- Drizzle hot honey on ricotta dip before serving (recipe coming soon)
- Pizza – this is a hot trend for 2023! You may have even seen commercials on TV featuring Mike’s Hot Honey.
- Fried chicken or Chicken & Waffles – sounds yummy!
- Grilled or baked vegetables – before or after cooking
- Cheeses like a spreadable creamy burrata or other spreadable cheeses
- Ice cream – vanilla ice cream is most used
- BBQ meats – baste hot honey on meats while grilling
- Salad dressings or just drizzle on a salad (especially the hot honey with apple cider vinegar)
- The possibilities are endless!
Spicy Hot Honey Recipe
Spicy hot honey can be made with and/or without apple cider vinegar. If you want to try it both ways after infusing the honey then divide the honey in half placing half the plain hot honey into one jar and the other half in another jar and then add the apple cider vinegar to one jar. That’s what I do. 😉
Ingredients
- 1 cup 100% Pure Raw Organic Honey
- 2 Tablespoons chili red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (optional)
Instructions
Warm Honey
Place honey in a small sauce pan and place over low heat until honey becomes thin. Stir in chili pepper flakes until well combined. Remove from heat and allow ingredients to infuse for up to 30 minutes or until desired heat flavor is achieved. It’s ok to taste test the honey in 15-minute increments to check for desired flavor.
Strain and Jar
After the hot honey has reached the desired flavor. Place sauce pan back on the stove over low heat again to thin honey. Then carefully pour honey into desired jar or jars. But first, before pouring hot honey into jars I highly recommend using a fine mesh strainer to strain chili peppers from honey into a large bowl or measuring cup then transfer into desired jar or jars. If using apple cider vinegar then add to honey here and stir until combined. Store honey in jar with lid and it’s okay to keep on the counter (no need to refrigerate).
