Make homemade caramelized oven roasted garlic. It’s a super easy recipe that includes only two ingredients: garlic bulbs and olive oil.
Once garlic is roasted it takes on a whole different flavor than raw garlic. It’s milder than raw garlic and roasting gives it a slightly caramelized sweet flavor.
How To Store Raw Garlic
Some people may recommend keeping garlic in the refrigerator in a sealed container. My belief is that storing garlic in the refrigerator changes the flavor and I find it best to keep garlic bulbs at room temperature.
Tip: To extend the life of raw garlic be sure to protect the bulbs from light and provide appropriate air flow. This can be achieved by storing multiple bulbs of garlic in this gorgeous stoneware garlic keeper until ready to use!
Oven Roasted Garlic Recipe
When making roasted garlic I use this natural terra cotta baker. The terra cotta baker is soaked in water prior to roasting garlic which helps to create moisture while roasting. The baker is large enough to roast several garlic cloves, an onion or even an apple.
Ingredients:
- 3 garlic bulbs
- olive oil
Instructions:
Prepare Garlic Baker
Soak terra cotta baker lid in water for about 15 minutes. No need to preheat the oven for this recipe.
Prepare Garlic
Remove some of the outside papery skin of the garlic. Not all of if just some of it. Cut about 1/4″ top off of the garlic bulbs and discard. If you think that’s a waste then it too can be added to the garlic baker. Place cut bulbs on terra cotta baker base and drizzle olive oil over entire bulbs. Then cover with baker lid.
Bake
Place terra cotta baker in cold oven. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour or until desired caramelization.
Carefully remove baker from oven. Remove lid and allow garlic to cool before handling.
How To Easily Remove Cooked Garlic From The Bulb
Removing cooked garlic from the bulb can be tricky. The best way to do this is to wait a few minutes until the bulb has slightly cooled enough to touch and gently squeeze from the bottom pushing the roasted garlic up and out of the papery skin.
Place the caramelized garlic in a small bowl with a little dab of olive oil. Serve oven roasted garlic on crostini’s or toasted bread and enjoy!
