Easy salad kabobs. Similar to any other kabob only lettuce is used in place of meat and there is no need to fire up the grill.

You have heard of beef kabobs, shrimp kabobs, chicken kabobs and even oven-roasted veggie kabobs but have you ever heard of salad kabobs? Can it be so? Why not! Salad kabobs are built the same as any other kabob only lettuce is used in place of meat. Since salad kabobs are served cold rather than hot there is no need to fire up the grill.

How to Make A Salad Kabob

Every kabob starts with a 12″ bamboo skewer. There is really no certain recipe for building a salad kabob. It only requires fresh vegetables! That’s it! Although the options could be endless below are a few suggestions of which vegetables work well when making kabobs:

  • Iceburg lettuce/spinach
  • Grape tomatoes or cherry tomatoes
  • Red pepper/green pepper/yellow pepper
  • Cucumber
  • Carrot ribbons
  • Zucchini
  • Red onion
  • Avocado

Whose to say you have to use all vegetables! Switch it up and add some fruit pieces to the skewers:

  • Strawberries
  • Watermelon
  • Mandarin oranges, tangerines or clementines
  • Grapes
  • Apples
  • Kiwi
  • Papaya or Mango

Clean Vegetables and Fruits

Clean all fruits and vegetables with an organic fruit and vegetable wash prior to cutting and eating. I also like using this bamboo cleaning brush for removing excess dirt on vegetables.

Cutting Vegetables and Fruits

Presentation can literally make or break your dish. Prepare vegetables by cutting with this simple tool. If you are planning on adding carrots to the skewer it is best to curl them by using this carrot curler. Otherwise, if you try to put a cut carrot on the skewer more than likely it will break in half.

Cut lettuce into 2×2 inch squares wedges and other vegetables about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.

Building The Skewer

Start building the skewer by gently pressing a wedge of lettuce onto the sharp end of the skewer and pushing it down just past the middle. Then start alternating vegetables, lettuce and or fruits. That’s it! Serve salad kabobs with your favorite salad dressing and ENJOY!

Ingredients

  • 1 head Iceburg Lettuce
  • 1-2 carrots
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 tub cherry tomatoes
  • 1 green pepper (you can use red, yellow or orange)
  • Any vegetable preferred
  • Any fruit preferred

Instructions

  1. Clean all vegetables and fruits prior to cutting or slicing.

  2. Cut lettuce into 2×2 inch wedges. 

  3. Cut all vegetables and/or fruits into bite sizes.

  4. Start building your skewer by gently pressing a wedge of lettuce onto the sharp end of the skewer and pushing it down just past the middle.  Then start alternating vegetables, lettuce and or fruits. That’s it! Sere with your favorite salad dressing.
